Kal Sarp Yoga or Dosha: Astrology without Spirituality.By Acharya Anuj Jain
Often when all then seven planets including moon comes in between the axis called Rahu ( Dragons head or North Node) and Ketu ( Dragons Tail or South Node), it is called Kaal Sarp Yoga or even Kaal Sarp Dosha. It is considered to have malefic effects on individual in astrology. Here Kaal is referred as passage of time , Sarp as serpant and Yoga means energy. This simply refers to destiny or prarabdha along with kriya.
There is quite a mystery surrounding this approach in astrology. Some stalwarts of astrology completely deny this Yoga (combination of aspect and placement) while others are ardent believers of its presence and effects. The basic reason to deny is that they there is no clear presence or description of it in ancient texts of astrology. While the secrets of Tantra, Kundlini, Shaivnism and Karmic astrology founds it in the very base or foundation of existence. When any combination talks about time, energy and existence, I think it cannot be denied mere on the basis of no reference in texts. How can we deny that even Rahu and Ketu are not planets but crossing points which have been awarded the class of planets due to their so much importance as energy field. They are so important that they not only have their presence or positional effect but also signify the stars they are into, sign they are placed, planets they co join and even plant they form aspects. In light of above I think we have to see Kal Sarp Dosha from altogether different perspective. Without considering the doctrine of karma and spirituality, the principals of astrology cannot be explained simply relying upon ancient texts, religion, faith and beliefs.
There are seven chakras or subtle energy centres within a physical body which acts as energy triggers known as Muladhara, Swadhisthana, Manipura, Aanahat, Vishuddha, Ajna and Sahastadhara. They are not any organ or have physical presence but are source energy centres connected with seven layers of our existence. The first is etheric body, second emotional body, third is mental body, fourth is astral body, fifth is etheric template body, sixth is celestial body and seventh is causal body. These bodies or layers are depicted as first house to seventh house in astrology and seventh house to twelfth house represents the inverted cycle of their chakras, layers or bodies. The base of energy is at Muladhara where the serpent energy is stored as a coiled serpent. It gradually rose and pass through the other selves, layers and reach the top of the head where there is Sahastradhara to again come back anticlockwise. In this way the serpent coil frontal and back energy thus taking its tail from its owns mouth. This is the perfection or micro cosmic orbit thus formed which we know as the rising of Shakti, meeting Shiva and thus forming the eternal dance of life and death. This microcosm represents the macrocosm. This is also shown and understood in elemental balance of Yin and Yang and also Shiva and Parvati in Shaivnism or Tantra.
In light of above, this journey is shown, explained as Kaal and the serpent mouth as Rahu and Ketu as tail in astrology. Wherever all the energies centres, that is, planets comes on either side of this serpent energy, it is said to be Kal Sarp Dosha. There are total twelve types of Kal Sarp Yoga in astrology namely Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, Shankhpal, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Karkotak, Shankhchud, Ghatak, Vishadhar and Sheshnaag, depending upon their clockwise and anti clockwise direction of serpent energy or simply speaking on right or left or inside or outside of Rahu and Ketu. The scope of this article is not to go in detail of the Tantric description of this yoga but to enlighten about the common debateable points among astrologers and misconception among public at large.
The serpent energy represents the Sanatan or never born, never died nature of existence. The cosmic dance of Shiva and Parvati is constantly playing and will keep on going till infinity. Due to past life Karmas, beliefs of our evolution process we have attachments and detachment about specific areas or choices of life which we have to resolve in a particular birth, it is shown in the form of Kal Sarp Dosha in a horoscope. The law of incarnation and reincarnation along with law of karma specifically determined by past life deeds or karma is shown by Rahu and Ketu and more specifically by the axis they have made among the twelve houses of astrology.
Due to ignorance, astrologers as well as general people are scared even with the name of Kaal Sarp Dosha. They think they are the chosen one to suffer. This combination is not so bad as it seems to be. Great many world leaders, industrialists, film stars, heavy weights like Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sardar vallabhbhai patel, Rajnikant, Atal behari vaijpai etc have this yoga in their horoscope. The understanding behind this yoga is very clear. There are some areas in life which you have chosen before your birth to master this time. You have also chosen the difficulties as reminders to remind and guide you of those specific issues. Once you go through those difficulties or issues and also master them the malefic effect stops there and then.
Let us take a simple example. There is a Kaal sarp Yoga in somebody horoscope where Rahu is in first house which represents personality and ketu in seventh house which represents life partner and daily life. All the seven planets are between this axis. Now in this Kaal Sarp since all planets are there on the left or inside of this yoga, this man has to face lessons regarding self, family, finance, courage, comforts, children, debts and duties and life partner where as other angles like luck, father, karma, fulfilment of desires, expenditures and investments, he will learn later on or they will act as reminders or triggers. This complex model can only be understood by astrology.
Let us only understand that if we learn and live our life as it unfolds and take our problems of life as lessons, reminders or friends, we can release our Karmic debts. Then we will understand that problems in life are only there for us to face, learn and evolve to the next level. Nature loves us and wants us to move next. It has chosen us to evolve further. A person who is suffering in relationships due to Kaal Sarp Yoga can choose to be more communicative and expressive, Career issues can be resolved by being more generous and focused, health can be regained by being more lively, vibrant and joyous etc. Let's not blame Kaal sarp but claim our rights as soul.
Kal Sarp Yoga has an understanding hidden behind its presence in horoscope or astrology.
1. Kaal Sarp Yoga is based on law of karma and Law of reincarnation. We are not only a physical body. Rather we are a part of source energy, a spiritual energy who is experiencing physicality through this life.
2. Kal Sarp Yoga is not a curse or some karmic burden levied upon you by some other external force or super power other than you. You are the creator of your own reality.
3. This universe acts out of eternal love, bliss and joy. You are beloved child of god or part of God who is only on His way.
4. There is a lesson behind this yoga which and when learned, the malefic effects starts mitigating from this life and beyond. You need not pass this exam every time you incarnate. Once a lesson is learned, it is learned forever. You are then promoted to next level of consciousness.
5. You have a choice to learn this lesson or get evolved this time or you can choose whole or part of it for the next life.
6. Kalsarp Yoga is a kind of lamp post which shows you the areas of evolution process you have already covered and which are yet pending or to be explored in this life time.
7. Kalsarp yoga means that the life exists in Now. There is no past or future in time. Past and future and time references. You are now this, have to be this and can be this only.
8. All hurdles, difficulties, issues and problems you face because of this yoga are nothing but reminders which teaches you, let you master specific issues in your specific choice way. You can choose to learn specific lesson some other equivalent way also.
There are various religious, spiritual practices to release this Karmic debt apart from offering water to Lord Shiva, worshipping snakes, visits to holy shrines, fast and ritualistic prayers, poojnam, archana, yantra, Mantra etc. I would recommend a few which I have found effective during my practise as astrologer, spiritualist and past life therapist.
1. Meditate, Meditate, Meditate.
2. Re Birthing, Yoga, Breath work and chakra therapy is an excellent option.
3. Release past life baggage by past life therapy.
4. Be with the creative side of life. Follow your SELF and SOUL.
5. Live in NOW.
6. Read new age spiritual books.
7. Choose and create your universe like Buddha.
So to me Kaal Sarp Dosha is a Kaal Saamarth Yoga. It is a friend not a foe.
